Forgive the off topic post, but it's been pretty quiet here anyway.

At home we have an Oregon Scientific WM-918 Electronic Weather Station
(identical to the now-discontinued Radio Shack WX-200) connected to an Apple
LC 575, running a non-supported, pre-Power Mac 040 hobbyist app called
Weather Reporter 200. It works great, displaying temperature trends,
year-to-date weather extremes and lots of other info.

Based on the success of that setup, I advocated successfully at work to
install an WM-918 there, too. It's connected to an early PowerMac, a 7200 I
believe.

Trouble is, almost every day (typically in the early morning hours) the 7200
seemingly stops receiving data from the WM-918.

My wife wonders whether there might be some little power interruption, like
the vacuum cleaner that used to knock a network printer offline, that
permanently interrupts the connection. I don't know whether a surge
protector would be of any value (maybe a UPS instead)?

I've tried OSes on the 7200 ranging from 7.5.5 to 9.1, all with the same
results. This computer is not on the network, BTW.

Anyone with ideas for salvaging my ill-fated project can reply off-list.

Thanks as always,

-- Chuck
