Carefull with that flat edged screw driver.
Don't be afraid to open it up unless you are a hammer and crow bar type.
There's a site that shows the layout of your machine. Take some time looking around and get familiar with the insides.

Yep, even a monkey could do it. It's a small barrel shaped battery. Simply find the old one in the PowerCenter, remove it, and plug in the new one. The equivalent part should be available at Radio Shack.
Note that the battery is typically covered by a plastic framed hood. You can get the hood off with your fingers, or if you need to, you can flip it out from the sides with a flat-edge screwdriver. Also, at the bottom of the battery compartment, is a raised imprint describing which way is positive and negative.
I would recommend that you don't take it to an Apple Repair Center to do it...they will probably charge you extra $$$ for the battery and then charge you a bench fee ($25 or so).
Be grateful you don't have an older machine (like an Amiga) which uses a SOLDER type barrel battery...

Subject: changing PRAM battery
From: Gary Bennett <[EMAIL PROTECTED]>

Hi. I have a PowerCenter Pro 180 (which my wife is presently using at work) which recently lost its ability to hold PRAM settings. I see from the technical specs that the machine uses a 3.6 V lithium battery. My question is: what's involved in changing it? My wife is bugging me to try to get the local Apple dealership to do it (which I am not at all confident that they would even be willing to do for a non-Apple brand machine) & I would like to know if I can tell her that I can do it.
