Some folks who reported here to click cancel (or something) and proceed with
installation without updating the hard disk driver. (As Robert said, you can
search the archives for previous discussions; the link appears below.)

Meanwhile, LowEndMac.com offers this:

"DriveSetup 1.3 and later is compatible with many third-party drives
(requires 68040 or PPC). See our compatibility list:"
http://www.lowendmac.com/drivesetup.shtml

Mind, it's likely that DriveSetup can't update the driver since the drive
was formatted with a non-Apple disk utility. But it might enable you to
reformat/initialize your drive (wipe it and start over). Of course, you
should up your drive before erasing it. (If you ever wanted a second, larger
hard drive, this would be a swell time to pick one up; install it, format it
with DriveSetup, copy the data from your old drive onto it, then reformat
your old drive and install 8.5 on it -- or on both drives.)

Whatever you do, if you get to 8.5, you will probably want to update it to
at least 8.5.1 or, maybe better yet, 8.6. Find updaters here:
