Ken,

Sorry to get in so late on the thread. I had a Powerbase running YDL 2.3 for a while. Getting the onboard video running took some tweaking--as do most things in PPCLinux. It's possible...good geeky fun.

If you're not a geek, I don't recommend it. I mean, if you've never run PPCLinux before, try to install PPCLinux on a machine besides the Powerbase, or, for that matter, a Nu-Bus mac. It's possible, but it's an undertaking.

Ken,

Not a stupid question...
There is a website I recently found...used to be LinuxPPC.com
and is now hosted on www.PenguinPPC.org...they have Yellow Dog
and lots of good info.

I had a friend reformat my hard drive on a PowerComputing PowerBase
240 and install a dual boot with 9.1 and PPC Linux...(I can boot to linux
off the install
CD by holding down the 'c' key during startup --otherwise it boots in OS
9.1).
there is much discussion about the NuBus macs and iMac machines, but
plenty of stuff on the oder machines and clones.

Happy hunting...
Janet

Stupid question from a new poster: Is there any way to obtain a startup
CD for the Powerbase 180 computer?
I tried two of my Apple CD's (6200 & iMac) and (obviously) neither of
them worked.

I obtained this PB180 second hand without any disks at all. I would like
to reformat the hard drive and put Yellow Dog Linux on it. Has anyone had
any success trying this?

Thanks

 Ken Martin
