Under which OS have you tried to mount the .dmg's? And what app is set to open them? And if you want to update Apple software under OSX go to the "Software Update" panel in System Preferences. If you want to update Apple software under OS9 go to Apple > Control Panels > Software Update.
.dmg's should be opened with Disk Copy (if you are using 10.1 or 10.2) or Disk Utility (if you are using 10.3). If you need to mount a .dmg under OS9 you should use Disk Copy 6.4 (never released publicly by Apple) you can get it from here http://homepage.mac.com/alk/personal/stuff.html but it may not work for all .dmg files as the page states.
