Hi Adam,
You'll need a driver for the card. Apple probably covers most if the card is compatible with your OS.

Haven't tried USB in OS 8, but I know many USB2 cards are incompatible with OS 9. I can only presume it to be worse with previous OS's. You might need to research the specific card for the OS, and/or use older USB1 cards, maybe even with their vendor drivers.

There's Apple's "USB Adapter Card Support 1.2: Read Me" for OS 8.5.1 and up at

I've had good luck with "USB Adapter Card Support 1.4.1" in OS 9 on a PTP with both an older SIIG USB1 card & a USB2 Sonnet Tempo Trio card without using vendor drivers. I have another oddball USB2 card that's only recognized in OS X.

Can I just plug in a PCI USB card for USB ports? I am running OS8.6 atm, but will perhaps look into installing a later version of the OS when I have the time to learn more about my PowerWave
