BeOS should work well on your PTP with a 604CPU.
I had the Preview Release of BeOS running on my PTP 250 with OS 8.1 on the main boot disk. I used an additional SCSI hard drive for the BeOs System files and it worked well. The BeOS Preview Release CD came with my PTP when I bought it new in 9/97.

It's not hard to install. You have to install the MacOS Tools and BeOS Launcher, Restart and then it will boot from CD to install the OS. Ithe actual OS installer is a hidden file.
There is a key command to get the correct boot disk for the Mac to boot from the CD. Read the instructions carefully and it is easy.

I used Adock for a week and it worked ok for me, never had a problem but I did not like it enough to pay the shareware fee. I would suggest a clean reformat of your hard drive and install of OS 9x. OS 9 seems to get less stable over time and a fresh install helps a lot.

Try booting from a CD and let us know what happens.

Good Luck,

Ron
