If you are using the grey OS 9.1 iMac install CD it should be ok.

What brand of CD-ROM is in the clone ? Have you tried force booting
from the CD ? command+option+shift+delete keys all held down during
startup with the CD in the CD-ROM.

Your Mac has to be booted from the CD to install the OS. When or if
you get to the dialog box that says your hard disk drivers cannot be
updated, just click ok and move on with the install.

You should have updated OS 9.1 hard disk drivers but without an Apple
Rommed hard disk you'll have to use what on the drive.

If something goes wrong try it again. I have had to try 2 or more
times before to get the installer to finish.
