If you have the OEM CD-ROM you will need either 3rd party drivers or I
have had luck with the old Apple CD-ROM extension form System 7. This
was before Apple eliminated the compatibility with most optical drives
except the Apple "Rommed" drives in Macs.

The Mac OS CD's usually will boot on the clones no problem. I don't
know about any other OS's.

The best thing to do is get an older CD-ROM from an Apple 73-9600 era
Macs. You can get up to 24x SCSI CD-ROM but they are not as common as
the 12x drives. You should be able to get a 12x for a few bucks or
free and that eliminates the problem altogether.
