Well, I may have found the solution. Recap:
>I'm running Powermail 5 and recently upgraded my PowerBook (Pismo) G3 >FireWire 2000 (500MHz with 1GB RAM and 40GB disk) from 10.3.8 to 10.4.2 >and Powermail to 5.2.1 > >Great, all went well, except for Powermail frequently slows to a crawl >with both text appearing in the message field and displaying messages >when selecting them using cursor or arrow keys (I use the 3-pane view). > >I tried using the Powermail First Aid procedures but to no avail - after >a while Powermail gets sluggish again and the only cure is a quit and re-open. > >Frequency is sporadic, but on average it happens several times a day and >is a real PITA, usually just when I don't need it. > >I keep about 2000 emails in the trash, set to delete after 14 days. I >don't have a whole lot of mail saved, only several hundred. > >Does anything spring to mind that i may have missed? As I mentioned, when I upgraded from 10.3.8 to 10.4.2, I also upgraded from 5.0.1 to 5.2.1 so I was about to revert to 5.0.1 when I thought I'd try downloading 5.2.1 again from the web site. Downloaded it, removed the old 5.2.1 and it's Zip file, binned them, installed the new 5.2.1 and I have not had the problem recur. I haven't sone anything else, so it must have been a corrupted Zip file? I should have tried unzipping the file again to see whether it was the Zip file that was corrupted or the extracted installer. No matter, it's working fine again. I note others have had problems with crashing while sending - I did have a few of those with 5.0.1, but none at all (so far) with 5.2.1 - - fingers crossed.
