It's been shrunk down to the status bar of the mail browser window.

There's a little text in the bottom right corner of the browser that
says "Idle." When you fetch mail, there's a thermometer and a little X
in a grey circle (of the style found in iTunes). Clicking on that X will
cancel mail fetch and send.

It's a smaller target to hit in a panic "oh no!" moment, but on the
other hand, it's always there vs being in a window that might be closed.
