Doh! The whole point of using plain text in emails is to make no assumptions about what kind of mail browser your recipient is using. If they want to render your text at 96 point purple on blue (or whatever) the settings should be at his end, not yours! He obviously needs to consult a disability service to get some expert advice on adapting his computer for his new partially sighted existence. If he were in London I would send him here: <http://libraries.islington.gov.uk/main.htm> as I happen to know that one of their librarians is very interested in the issue, but I'm sure there are parallel organisations across the world.
