Really.  I don't recall this happening in Claris Emailer, which was the
last mail app I used before switching to PM.

So what?  Can I double-click my shoes and have them tie themselves? 
We're not talking about web browsers (or shoes) here.  :)

Terrible legacy.  A text editing region is not an HTML form, so I have no
expectation of it to behave like one.
