I had tried this before using the PM alias in the dock and it wouldn't work. That's why I compacted from the menu. This time it worked OK by opening from PM in the application folder. I selected all the top 5 options and optimized them all while I was at it. Then, while I was reading today's mail, I was surprised by the following message... "The search index needs to be sorted and optimized before it can be used, and this may take a while. Do you want to do it now?" There were two buttons - "Later" and "Do It Now". I clicked on "Do It Now" - the message disappeared but nothing else happened !! Curious! Incidentally, opening PM from the dock while pressing the command and option keys now opens First Aid window OK. Thanks for the help, Frank -- Frank Mitchell, Scottsdale, Arizona
