If all your mail is still on the .mac server,
change to pop for retrieving from .mac mail, IN Power Mail. If you are a
bit worried about losing something, leave messages on the server for a
few days until you can check you have it all. Your filter will sort the
.mac mail into the appropriate folders. Of course, not the IMAP folders,
you have to make new folders to sort into. Mine still aren't adjusted
quite right.

Alternatively [and I have done this both ways], use the Mail application
to get all of your .mac mail "on my computer" either deleting from the
server or leaving it on the server. Leaving it on the server actually
results in what looks like two copies of the mail, one the local cache
which is a reflection of what is on the server, and the other the one
that is actually ON your computer. Then, you can IMPORT the local folders
into PowerMail. Mailbox by mailbox, if you like.

PowerMail is really tolerant of this sort of thing. I was surprised how
easy it was to go back and forth. People say that they don't like to use
pop because it strips the server; but with PM it is very easy to leave
your messages on the server for a short or long time.
