Thanks for your input. On the MacHint pages I found a lot about how to do it via the Terminal and scripting - nothing I want to get into for now.
The link you provided shows a way to handle it that others on the MacHint page did caution about. But the same URL provided another link:<http:// macupdate.com/info.php/id/11777> which leads to a utility (with an interface I can easily understand) called "Service Manager" and this little utility does for me the trick. It is a freebee (always nice!) and adds a PreferencePane to the SystemPreferences. Works nicely here and obviously I can reset to default values which is great, just in case I do want access to a specific Service at a later time.
