Mikael, To follow up on your question... I don't know. However, it would seem that you could define an attachments folder that was hidden away somewhere so that you would rarely actually come across it, and then use your filters and applescripts to build a more comprehensive attachment management system that would create aliases of attachments, keep those inside the attachment folder, and then move the originals to wherever you wanted to keep them.
