The best way to avoid spam is still to be selective with mentioning your email address: in my 3 PM accounts the number of spam vs real mail is something like 1:100, whereas in my Yahoo account it is 70:1 - I use my Yahoo address for all emails to companies, institutions etc. In Yahoo itself, about 95% is recognised as spam and filtered before I even see it.
