>Also, as I already have said, if you'd like the messages in the RMW to >stay only until next time you restart, then a simple preference setting >concerning the behaviour of the RMW would keep both you and people like >me (which would typically be ex-Emailer users) happy. I'm an ex-Emailer user. But, darn, I guess I'm not typical. :) I'm not voting for the RMW because it doesn't make sense to me. (If Emailer had this feature, I didn't use it all those years either.) But, I think you might be getting the impression that I'm against it for other users, which I'm not. But, a few of us have just seen that there are alternative methods which seem just as easy for us to use as you feel the RMW is for you. I'd rather have more options in the contextual menus than are currently available, but I know there are others who want more emphasis on keyboard accessibility. I'm a fence-rider on this issue because some days, I'd rather use my trackball more, while other days, I use the keyboard more. I want it both ways. Heck, there are some mailing lists, announcement lists that I never reply to, so I only use the trackball when reading those messages and ignore the keyboard altogether. I don't like feeling disjointed in reading my mail. I put messages from one mailing list in one folder and deal with those messages all at once from the folder designated for that mailing list. Or sometimes, when the list is very active, I get anxious to get to another folder with messages from another mailing list. I've looked at the RMW several times since this discussion brought it to my attention, but each time, just a few seconds glance at all the vastly different topics just doesn't appeal to me. I like to contain and constrain the flavor and attitude of my separate mailing lists - the RMW doesn't do this. Instead, it is like soup. I usually read my messages, by message folder, in a certain order. Some lists I'm anxious to read so they are of a higher priority. Messages that don't come from a mailing list are of lower priority - especially if they come from ads (those I have signed up for - I ignore and delete ALL unsolicited SPAM.) and I don't even want to see the topics from those while reading through messages from mailing lists. Of course, if I'm shopping around for something, then I might ignore the mailing lists in hopes one of the ads is sending me a sale price on the item I want. I'm also in school, so I don't want to accidently confuse messages about school with something from a mailing list. I'm not arguing with you, so I hope you aren't feeling defensive. I just think we are definitely disagreeing on the usefulness of the RMW. I would suffer no loss if it didn't exist, even though I've spent a lot of time looking at it lately to see your point of view. I hope CTM provides the features you request to make it even more useful - if possible. -- Sleep after toil, port after stormy seas, ease after war, death after life does greatly please. -Edmund Spenser, poet (1552-1599) * 867 PowerBook G4 * OS X 10.2.6 * 768 MB Ram * * Addictions: iTunes 4 * WarCraft * The Sims *
