Okay, ready for this? I had to go to "Setup Accounts" and select my
default signature there. When I selected "Random Text Signature" as my
"default" signature under "Accounts", I got the signature line where I
wanted it, when this reply was initially created.
Go figure.
However, with that configured as the default, I can't use the pull-down
menu in the message window to change this signature if I'd like to.
