Apple has incuded on their site instructions for having iCal trigger an
AppleScript instead of using Mail to notify. At first glance, I thought
the steps were too lengthy and looked for something simple. Searching
versiontracker.com or macupdate.com provided a few options if you want to
choose that route.

The AppleScripts I've created, for triggering by an event in iCal, so far
are for iTunes, text to speech, and Finder. I haven't yet created any
scripts to get information from iCal for PowerMail.
