From the Window menu you can rotate the Toolbar to be vertical, but that's the best you can do. You can't make the Toolbar stick to the Mail Browser window. >Attachments, seems PM just dumps them into a folder, there is no >organization to the folder at all, at least, I would like to see them stored >in folders named that of the account they are attached to. Set up an incoming mail filter that runs an applescript to test for the presence of an attachment and a specific account then just copy the attachment to the folder based upon these criteria. >Send attachments, are they stored/copied anywhere? Again, I liked the way >Entourage saved them to a message, often used that to save my but when I >needed to back rev a file. Sent attachments are simply links to the file your attaching. They aren't replicated. Not even Entourage substitutes for a good backup. ;) Attachments are funny things. If you move the attachment the link to the message will be broken. In fact, I'm not sure if the above suggestion would cause the link in the message to be broken. >I am actually more interested in learning more about what PM does not do >that Entourage does, for example the bursting of messages, I never used >that, so that does not matter to me, nice to know there is a script that can >handle it. A big reason was bloat. I never used the newsreader function of Entourage and I liked the lean, mean look of PM. When I converted my databases over the size was about a third of the Entourage DB and that included my Attachments folder. PM doesn't have the tracking of replies, etc. that Entourage does. If you're adept at AppleScript, or at least ask really nicely here on the list and someone has time, you can duplicate most things. For me, one of the things that drove me from Mail.app was the inability to "View Unread Only" from a folder. It's just an idiosyncrasy of the way I read mail. Sometimes unseen is good. PM is not designed to read HTML mail. Some messages will choke it. I've turned off the HTML viewer and click on the little globe at the bottom of my Mail Browser window and view the HTML messages in Safari. Maybe this will improve once WebKit is released and PM is updated to utilize it. PM's manual, while just having been updated, is pretty thin. There are lots of undocumented features and ways to do things. This list has been invaluable for stuff like that. PM is clean and fast whereas Entourage is huge and comprehensive. There are probably lots of little things that Entourage does that PM doesn't, but the only real way to tell is to live in PM for a few weeks. I ran both for 3-4 weeks before switching. I haven't regretted it yet, but there are still some things that I wish I could accomplish but even AppleScript can't help with. The only thing I wish I could really get was the ability to do timed events, a workaround uses cron but takes a bit more ability. -- Andy Fragen TiBook 400/384 RAM - OS X 10.2.6 - PowerMail v4.1.3 PowerMail AppleScript Archives: http://homepage.mac.com/wayneb/powermail.html
