Yes. Presumably you have a filter set up along the lines of:
. . . . . . . . . .
If FROM is [EMAIL PROTECTED] then MOVE message to Folder A.
. . . . . . . . . .

In order to prevent the message from appearing in Recent Mail, just add
an action to this filter so that the message gets moved to the Mail
Trash, THEN to Folder A. Moving it to the mail trash removes it from
Recent Mail. I use this trick to prevent all the messages from this
mailing list from filling my Recent Mail window.

Not that I know of, except that you could turn off "Play Sound" in the
Notifications pane of prefrences. Then you could use filters to assign
specific noises to certain addresses, using the address book. Here's what
I mean:

Let's say, for example, that you have your PM address book divided up
into 3 folders called Friends, Work and Family. So all your addresses are
in one or another of these folders. You can then set up three filters
with parameters like:
. . . . . . . . . .
Filter incoming messages:
If FROM is in Folder "Friends" then PLAY SOUND "Ding"
Do NOT stop applying filters to this message.
. . . . . . . . . .

There are many variations on this depending on how your PM address book
is set up; mine is synched to my Apple Address Book app, which means that
all of my addresses are in one folder in the PM address book called
"Apple Address Book Contacts". Obviously this doesn't help me much in
subdividing addresses for noise choice, so I have created several Groups
in the PM address book (each group containing _aliases_ to addresses from
the "Apple Address Book Contacts" folder) and have my filter look for
those groups rather than folders. Same result though.

I know that this is kind of a backwards way of achieving what you wanted,
but it does have the advantage that, once it's set up (and it's not as
difficult as I've made it sound here), on the occasions when PM *does*
make a noise you know roughly who the email is from.

Hope this helps;
Rick
