I really don't get this either. I've been following all the heated
discussions lately, though I've tried to just keep my mouth shut. Anyhow,
I've been able to compose messages while PowerMail is set to check for
new mail every 10 minutes. I've also been able to do stuff in other
applications while watching PowerMail check for new mail (I keep the
small status window at the very bottom left side of my monitor. Windows
in other applications are always sized and positioned so they don't block
my view of when PM is getting and sending new email, so I'm sure I'd
notice a slowdown.)

The issues related to a slowdown in email creation while retrieving mail
sound to me like a multitasking problem, or perhaps due to settings. I
think, in the internet settings, there is an option to allow more than
one concurrent connection (just looked, but couldn't find) - could this
be the problem? Or could it be related to dial-up software? Interference
caused by spam software? I have DSL access and my mail functions haven't
caused interruptions in other activities. Are you checking and/or sending
one account at a time or more than one email account simultaneously?
