Hello If I switch to PowerMail I will have a need to archive a huge number of messages (I several mail trays with messages numbering in the thousands in Cyberdog). Archiving allows me to do more efficient daily back ups with Retrospect (i.e.- only new messages get backed up while those which have been backed up before don't get needlessly backed up again). An additional requirement is that I need to keep these archived messages immediately available on hand for quick and easy reference (which Cyberdog allows).
Currently, the way I deal with archiving in Cyberdog is to keep separate archive trays. Since, Cyberdog maintains a separate folder & corresponding databases for each mailtray it is easy to configure a daily Retrospect script to ignore the archives. In addition, both my current and archive trays are visible, browsable and simultaneously searchable in Cyberdog's Mail Trays window. However, because it appears PowerMail maintains a single database for all message trays this makes archiving, backing up, browsing and finding older messages more problematic. According to PowerMail's manual (as noted under the heading "Storing off-line archives") the way to create archives is to create a new environment for a different user. I have several concerns and questions about this... 1. Unlike Cyberdog, this prevents one from conducting a search in both one's current and archived sets of trays. Are there plans to add a feature to PowerMail which enables one to search through multiple user's mailboxes thus enabling one to search both one's current and archived trays at once? 2. Is it possible to transfer messages from one user environment to another? i.e.- transfer a message or messages from a current tray to it's corresponding archive tray? 3. If the above is possible, is it possible to AppleScript such a procedure? I would like to be able to create an AppleScript which automatically transfers messages, after being backed up by Retrospect, to their corresponding archive trays. Thanks, Anthony __________________________________________________ Do you Yahoo!? The New Yahoo! Search - Faster. Easier. Bingo http://search.yahoo.com
