You're correct in that my prefs are set to default using the PM address
book.  The thing is, I am 98% positive that "Open in AAB" used to work
properly some time ago.  It has been probably a month or two since I
would have last invoked that function, but I am certain that it's worked
for me before.

...... but I have now solved the problem!  Looking in the prefs, I
realised that PM had become de-synchronized from my addressbook (probably
because I have been moving my database between my G4 and iBook recently).
 Consequently it must have lost the link.  I re-exported and re-enabled
synchronization, and "Open in AAB" works again.

(unfortunately, now my AAB contains hundreds of users in duplicate.  Oh
well, I'll deal with that later.)
