On my setup, "Open item" does indeed open the Apple address book; but instead of the "Open contact in Apple Address book" option I have "Open contact in PM Address book" -- presumably because I have my preferences set to open addresses in AAB by default. From that I would deduce that you have PM set to open addresses in PM by default, and maybe that's the cause of addresses not opening in the AAB? On the other hand, I just turned off my "Open contacts in Apple Address Book by default" preference and although the contextual menu item did indeed change to "Open contact in Apple Address book", it performed as expected. So there's something specific about your setup Ben, I'm afraid.
