OK ...

In my eternal quest to make PowerMail launch a new message (and not
just come to the front) whenever I click a "mailto" link or an e-mail
address in other applications, I deleted EVERYTHING related to PowerMail
off my hard drive and reinstalled it (backed up messages on CD).
The new, clean PowerMail actually worked - started a new message when
I clicked an e-mail address. So I tried importing my message and address
databases ... still worked fine. YeY. So then I dragged my backed-up
PowerMail Files folder from the CD ... the new-message thing stopped
working, Bad. So I deleted it again and replaced it with the new one -
everything works fine.
I figure I can live with re-entering my mail accounts by hand, so I
set up my accounts.
    Now it doesn't work anymore!
    Brain ... exploding ... soon.
I thought maybe it doesn't work when you have more than one account
so I deleted all but one - still doesn't work.

Does anyone have ANY insight as to why PowerMail forgets to start a
new message when I click an external mail link? The program does come to
the front, it is selected as my default e-maikl app.
Is there some secret way to make one of my accounts the "default"
account to make this happen? I even tried using the "default settings"
button that links to the Internet control panel, and that does not work.
For some reason, as soon as I enter mail accounts, PowerMail stops
launching a new message when I click an external e-mail link.
I knew I picked a bad week to stop sniffing glue.
    (OS 10.2.4, PM 4.1.2)
    Thank you!
