I've been using PM 5.5 on my G4 desktop with Tiger 10.4.8 without major
problems.  However, I bought a MacBook Pro (2.16 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
running 10.4.8), moved over my PM files, downloaded and installed PM
5.5, ran Permission Repair (and YASU), and opened PM.  

Although the program opens and the browser shows the messages from my
database (and if I select one with the cursor, I can preview the
message), if I try to open a message, or write a new message, or reply
to (or forward) one of the messages in my inbox, the program disappears
and I get the message "The Application PowerMail Quit Unexpectedly."

Have been through the re-installation process (i.e., deleting the
application and downloading another) several times, always with the same
result.

Any suggested fixes?
