OK, two followup comments: for some reason my default character set was UTF8, not by my choice. Happened after the last PM upgrade? However, as Jerome pointed out, the e-mail should not have happened that way AND when I resent my posting, it came through OK and I had not yet changed my character setting, so it is at least behaving inconsistently. I have since changed (with this mailing) to US-ASCII. Thanks, everyone.--Ira
