Palo Verde provides the following response:

Yes. Palo Verde normally uses the MGP Instruments DMC-2000S for routine RCA
entries; however, after experiencing frequent rate alarm "spikes" due to the
strong EMF generated during welding we looked at what was causing the false
alarms and at way to mitigate EMF/RFI interfere with our electronic dosimeters.

I performed tests with other electronic dosimeters and found that the military
version of the DMC-2000S, the SOR/R is not susceptible due to the way the
antenna is constructed and placed inside the dosimeter.

I wrote some operating experiences on interference alarms and they are
available on the INPO Nuclear Network: OE22508 - Results of Electronic
Dosimeter Electro-Magnetic Interference (EMI) Testing during Welding Activities
(Palo Verde) and OE14697 - DMC-2000 EPD Dose Rate Alarm Caused by Induced
Oscillation from New RCA Turnstile System

Subject: Powernet: Welding Electronic Dosimeter?

Duke E nergy would appreciate any input for the following:
Is anyone using an electronic dosimeter specifically for welding (special RF
shielding)?
