Robinson requires smears from areas outside RCA to be counted on a proportional
counter (Tennelec) which gives a MDA in this “ballpark” but otherwise we don’t
have a specific MDA requirement in contamination survey procedure.

At Cook we currently have the following step in our survey procedure, but no
one can remember why we implemented that requirement.

IF the survey is being performed in an area outside of the Restricted Area,
THEN smears shall be analyzed on an instrument that can attain an MDA of less
than or equal to 100 dpm.

Does anyone else have a sensitvity requirement for instruments used for surveys
performed outside their RCA ?

Thank You
Hal Springer
