Subject: Powernet: Questions regarding your ALARA Planning Organization
Thank you to any and all responses.
1. SONGS would like to know if your facility has an HP/RP ALARA
Planner/Technician assigned to work in the Maintenance Planning Organization..
Yes_____ No_X___
2. Do you supply any specific ALARA training for Maintenance Planners?
Yes____ No__X__
3. Do your Maintenance Planner's develop job dose estimates? Yes____
No__X__
Maintenance has a dose champion who is responsible for working with
ALARA personnel to develop maintenance dose goals - this is a work in progress
but we feel it is essential for line organizations to have ownership for their
organization's dose projections.
4. Does your facility have daily dose goals? Yes__X__ No____ or
Weekly goals? Yes__X__ No____ Also monthly and annual
5. Does your facility track dose to the tenth of a mrem? Yes__X__ No____
Our software doesn't support this so all our reports are in mrem.
However personnel are responsible for manually recording any dose they receive
by ED each entry.
6. Do you use wrench time for your estimates? Yes__x__ No____ or Total
RCA time? Yes____ No____
We struggle with maintenance on this issue. However having them take
ownership for their projections (an NCR must be written if estimates are
significantly over or under actual) is a step in the right direction.
7. Do you use a % of the hours provided by Maintenance Planning to develop
your estimate? Yes____ No__X__ (ie. 30%) We don't normally do this.
This takes away their ownership for their dose if it appears we have revised
their dose projection in an "arbitrary" manner.
Please feel free to expound upon any of your responses to the questions above.
Thank you,
