Subject: Powernet: Refueling Cavity Decontamination
Palo Verde is looking for information about Refueling Cavity Decontamination.
What method is used decontaminate the cavity? (Strippable paint, pressure
washing, etc.) In the recent past we have used a combination of a Norclean
(air vac) powered 2 way decon system, mops, squeegies, Alconox Detergent 8, and
wands to clean the upper cavity. We are approved to use a strippable coating
during our next refueling outage. I think Masterlee is going to apply the
coating. We have had some leakage problems in the past so we will be applying
the coating before initial flood up.
What are typical contamination levels on the walls and floor after
decontamination? Our stated goal is < 50K dpm/100cm^2 but we get most of the
cavity must less than this.
How much outage time is allowed for cavity decontamination? They never give us
enough time, but we always get what we need. It takes about a shift of
critical path time to decon the cavity but we don't typically get but about one
half of that in the schedule.
Any information is appreciated.
Thanks,
Gordon Nelson
