Subject: Powernet: Radioactive Material Control Inside Primary Chemistry Lab

I would appreciate your help answering these questions. Thanks!!!

Do chemistry technicians perform RCS (and other contaminated sample) sample
preparation and analysis activities inside a posted contamination area or do
their qualifications allow them to perform these chemistry activities outside
of a posted Contamination Area?
Inside posted Contaminated Areas. Most samples are prepared inside fume hoods
which have a Contaminated Area placard and CA tape across the front of the hood.

Does your site have Contaminated Areas within the primary lab that are
designated only by Contamination Area tape (e.g., on a lab counter where
contaminated samples are handled)?
Yes, one sample sink outside a fume hood.

Does your site have contaminated areas within the primary chemistry lab that
are roped off as a posted Contamination Area with a Step Off Pad?
Yes, one is roped off with no SOP. The area is located behind a sample rack
with very limited accessibility.
