Mark,

Braidwood has installed these on all 3 of the pressurizer safety relief
valves on both units, which cut dose from 350 mrem/valve to150
mrem/valve. Braidwood also install the hydraulic nuts on the excess
letdown heat exchanger (leaked for a decade and several attempts made
but failed until hydraulic nuts eliminated leak 5 years ago). We got
the idea for safety relief valves from BWR (Dresden) and ELDH from PWR
(Diablo Canyon). There are two companies that sell product. We used
NOVA, which is now Curtis Wright; because they were ANSI certified which
eliminated engineering analysis as we only had to do engineering parts
evaluation. So far VC Summer has used on Rx Head and we are still
evaluating their experiences.

Pwr reactor head closure nuts with individual hydraulics. Instead of
moving from nut to nut with a tensioner you just hook the hydronuts up,
press the button and stand back.

Short version.

  Subject: Powernet: Hydro nuts ?

In INPO IER L2 on "Inadequate Radiation Exposure Performance" , they
include the question:

Assess the use of hydro-nuts on large components; much easier to remove.

Does anyone know what these are ?

Is anyone using them, if so what application ?

Thank You
