Hi Corrin, We're in an outage right now at Robinson but here are some short answers for work we did on RVH inspection/repair at Harris for the last outage (spring 2012) and forced outage this past spring. I can give you more detail in November :)
1. We had 7 compartments set up as: head, thorax/front, thorax/back, upper arm/left, upper arm/right, abdomen/front, and abdomen/back 2. We combined our thigh dosimeters with the abdomens (51% to front or back). The field gradients we looked at showed we'd essentially have the same dose rates at thigh and abdomen so they could be combined. We didn't do that with the upper arms because we thought we'd see a significant gradient between head/thorax/upper arm with the workers up amongst the tubes/funnels. We took the highest reading for each of the front/back multipacks, i.e., highest from front/back thorax, and highest from front/back abdomen for our EDEX dose calc. 3. I have a preliminary report (not complete) in which I've noted that with the gradient we saw under the head, I think we could go with one on the head and one each on the front/back thorax and take the highest of those two. I think we could assign 10% to the head and 90% to the highest of the thorax multipacks because I did the analysis and found that using those 3 dosimeters vs 7 would only differ from the 7 pack results by 3-4% more, i.e., conservative. A lot of time/effort would be saved setting up 3 vs 7 multipacks then. Hope that's useful. Any and all information you can provide on the following effective dose equivalent external questions would be greatly appreciated. 1. Does your plant use all seven compartments per Regulatory Guide 8.40, Table 1 when using EDEX (i.e. every multipack has seven dosimeters)? 2. If "No" to #1 and your site combines compartments, what locations do you group together? 3. Has your site performed any calculations to determine the delta in total EDEX dose using all seven dosimeters versus the overall dose using combined compartments? If "Yes", would you be willing to share your results with me at [email protected]<mailto:[email protected]>? Thank y'all for your time. Have a wonderful day.
