Standard protocol is warm water so that, (1) pores don’t close due to water
being too cold and “hold on to” contamination, and (2) pores and blood vessels
don’t open up (vasodilation) due to water being too hot and let contamination
absorb faster.

That’s basic rad protection 101 stuff and there are numerous references that
quote that protocol. Quick on-line search noted this protocol in US Dept of
HHS, Rad Emergency Medical Mgmt and even the NRC Site Access Refresher
Training, Chapter 7, (on the NRC website).

Hope that’s useful.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] [powernet] Hot water for decon shower?

Just checking if anyone knows of a requirement to have hot water in your
personnel decon shower. I know it's the most efficient process, but is it
required? I couldn't find anything other than the requirement for the decon
facilities/shower (UFSAR, ANI. . .). Thanks, Eric Goldin
