All,

At STP we lift the reactor head while we perform cavity flood up. We keep the
head about 12" from the top of the water until the CRDM drive shafts are
covered then the reactor head is raised and moved toward the head stand.

I have been asked to evaluate raising the head without having to follow the
water level. I am not inclined to do this for the following obvious reasons:

1. High Radiation Levels without the head over the drive shafts

2. Potential spread of particles due to ventilation

3. Potential airborne due to drying out of the drive shafts

4. Possible increase dose to the workers

I would like to know what PWRs out there raise their heads without following
the water level and what have you seen for rad conditions.

Any help is appreciated - my email [email protected]

Thanks Roger
