1- Health Physicist assigned to ALARA, writes ALARA plans and
temporary shielding requests for the most part.
RP is broken down into 4 areas, Field Ops, ALARA, RadWaste and Tech Support. We
had a 25% staffing reduction about two years ago. Most of this reduction was in
tech support with 1 supervisor and 3 health physicist positions, 1 procedure
writer, and performance improvement position eliminated. The focus was what is
needed for day-to-day operations. Our corporate staff is a CFAM and one program
manager.

3. No, Senior Staff Health Physicist positions. Typically management is
considered this.
4. No, not required to be ABHP certified. In all of TVA there are two CHPs in
management positions. One individual working towards, having completed Part 1
and expecting to sit for Part 2 this summer.
5. Health Physicists are salary employees.
Except at one site, RP technical support has been purged of health physicist
positions. RP technicians are used to collect data under the direction of
management, management assembles the data and generates the reports previously
performed by health physicist. Procedures are now updated by RP technicians.
New procedures and those that need to be changed due to changes in standards or
industry practices are changed by management or by the site that still has
health physicists in the technical support area.
