At Palo Verde we don’t use HIS-20, were on Sentinel, but we have over the years
see all of those issues with Sentinel.

1. I think a lot of these are battery issues. Marginal batteries seem to
drop the 2000 back to pause. Then the worker is logged I but dosimeter is in
pause. We also elected to turn off a lot of checks between the software and
dosimeter that can be done during login, because they seem to effect the
dosimeter in a similar manner, this leaves a dosimeter on but not logged in. We
have a “Dumb” turnstile that checks that your SRD is turned on before allowing
you into the RCA and again before entering containment to make sure they didn’t
leave it in the dress-out area.

2. Same as 1.

3. Again battery issue. I see it a lot in multipacks, Those dosimeters are
older and not part of the mainstream lot. Batteries don’t get changed as much.

4. See this when the worker is not paying attention to what they are doing
during login. They leave it in the reader too long and it starts the logout
process. We lengthened the pause time between screens and helps. The worker
needs to keep focused on what they are doing.

North Anna has a question for plants that use Canberra’s HIS-20 software and
DMC-2000 electronic dosimeters.

1. Have you had any occurrence where the DMC-2000 has been found in PAUSE
after being issued in HIS-20?

2. Have you had any occurrence where the DMC-2000 once issued has turned
back to PAUSE without interfacing with a dosimeter reader?

3. Have you had any occurrence with the DMC-2000 losing contact with the
wireless reader during the issuance or return process?

4. Have you had any occurrence during the issue process, the system
issues then quickly returns the dosimeter?

5. If you have answered “yes” to any of these questions – what corrective
measures have you put in place to prevent these events?
