We use to use them. The dose pre-alarm setting was the same as the alarm, but the rate pre-alarm was 80% of the alarm. We stopped using them because WANO thought we were hiding rate alarms by using the pre-alarms.
Now for the editorial portion. Using your reasoning on the pre-alarms, have you eliminated all of the warning alarms in your control room? Bet you haven't. Phillip J. We want our staff focussed on monitoring their epd, and not relying on a chirp that could be mistaken for the actual EPD dose alarm. Does your site make use of them? Why or why not?
