Doing some informal benchmarking: How do you post Contaminated Areas (CA) that
have levels greater than those allowed for SELF-BRIEFING (>10K dpm/100cm2) that
are within an existing CA, but less than levels requiring "High Contamination
Area" postings? Reason for asking:
QA found that the radiological posting of an equipment laydown area in the U-2
Reactor Containment Building (Building is posted Contaminated Area at each
entrance) did not include a "readily identifiable" type of radiological hazard
present, as required by NISP-RP-04, Radiological Posting and Labeling, Section
2.1 and Section 3.2.
Material in the laydown area contained smearable contamination levels up to 10k
dpm/100 cm2, which is greater than contamination levels allowed for
SELF-BRIEFING; hence the area was posted: "Caution" with a trefoil and an
insert reading "RP Briefing Required for Entry."
