1. We calibrate & maintain the whole body counters (Canberra/Mirion Fastscan
and AccuScan II) in house. We've kept the calibration of all our spectrometers
within the RP group and have been able to maintain the expertise to do so.
Assuming that you have individuals with the interest, background and training,
it can be significantly less expensive than contracting it out.

2. Can send our calibration procedure if desired.

3. No cross-check failures.

I should mention that if any of you out there are considering doing the work
in-house, I highly recommend some vendor-provided training. We use the Apex
InVivo system and, while relatively easy to use, does have its quirks.
Attempting to configure & manage a system without any training (or serious
mentoring) could be a frustrating experience.

Subject: RP Manager Dist list - WBC questions

Do you perform cross checks on Whole Body Counters at your stations?
If so,

  1. Do you use a vendor to perform annual calibrations? What is the basis
for performing cross checks on WBC?
  2. Can you send us your procedural guidance for post vendor calibrations?
  3. Do you have challenges with cross check failures?
