Separatist flags fly on RMS anniversary

INDONESIA: Five flags of the secessionist South Maluku Republic (RMS) were 
flown Saturday coinciding with the separatist anniversary in their stronghold 
Aboru village in Haruku Island district, Central Maluku regency.

"There were five flags hoisted in Aboru today," an Aboru informal leader, John 
Malawau, said over the phone on Saturday, adding that the sitution was "just 
fine."

Meanwhile, Maluku Police chief Brig. Gen. Totoy Hermawan Indra said they were 
checking "rumors" of the incidents.

Aboru has been labeled as a separatist village as many separatist leaders hail 
from the village. - JP

Police Arrest Maluku Separatist


TEMPO Interactive, Jakarta: Maluku Police announced on Monday (27/4) the 
capture of one member of the separatist South Maluku Republic on the 
anniversary day of the separatist group on Saturday (25/4).

Detective and Crime Unit of the Maluku Provincial Police Senior Commissioner 
Antam Avriantono told reporters, Eltinus Tuanakotta, the Second Secretary of 
South Maluku Republic was arrested at Hunimua Beach in Central Maluku as he was 
returning to his hideout in Seram island after planning to attend the 
anniversary celebration of the group in Ambon. Police did not elaborate whether 
Eltinus actually arrived in Ambon for the ceremony or not.

Eltinus was one among several members of the group hunted for the group's flag 
waving during the National Family celebration at Merdeka Square in Ambon on 
June 29th 2007 led by President Yudhoyono.
