Dear Mr Mario Gagho,

Thanks for your inputs. My worthless piece actually benefit from your
valuable inputs. :o)
The idea of posting such worthless piece is to fish out valuable inputs that
can further improve my understanding. Perhaps, I am too selfish. And
honestly, I don't dare to include myself as amongst the indonesian
intellectuals. So please don't measure the quality of indonesian
intellectual discourse from my piece.

I am sure there are alot of other members who think lowly of the article.
But I appreciate you putting the effort to not just point it out but also
give helpful insights. Being a neophyte, my resources are highly limited. If
you have the jacob levich article, perhaps, you would not mind sharing it?

The question that I was pondering while writing that piece is to what extent
NGOs can be made accountable. Should it come from the government or within
the NGOs circle? Would NGOs' code of ethics suffice?
Your inputs would be greatly appreciated. I can understand if you don't have
the time, of course.

Have a nice summer in Taj Mahal. :o)

Cheers,
X'tine
Spring (I wish) in Jakarta

Subject: Re: (Opinion-Jkt Post, June 1, 2004) THE RETURN OF THE OLD NEW
ORDER MEASURES?

dear friends,

issues regarding the foreign-funded NGOs being
involved in some kind of power-shift in some
developing countries actually not new. jacob levich in
his article published by american online newsletter
december/2003 discussed at length about the
phenomenon.

in the article, levich elaborates the involvement of
certain NGOs in political coup de tat in georgia, etc.
and most of these NGOs hiding under the guise of
social welfare activities which is permissible in any
countries. certain main organisation like USAID and
George Soros foundation also involve in this
activities.

notwithstnding the fact, it's naive to say that every
NGOs should be suspected as a threat to civil society.
equally it's absurd to defend any NGOs as innocent.
nonetheless, the piece you've written give a new
insight as far as indonesian intellectual discourse
goes.

for ms. Chin, thanks for posting your worthless piece
here. :)

regards
summer in the taj mahal,
