(Silicon India) Tamil Nadu village councils to be IT empowered IANS Thursday, October 14, 2004
CHENNAI: Over 1,000 village panchayats in Tamil Nadu are to be made IT-enabled. State Chief Minister J. Jayalalitha inaugurated the scheme Wednesday for making all 1,113 village panchayats IT-enabled at a cost of Rs.1 million. Several villages were given computers on the occasion. Women's self-help groups will use the computers provided to the villages to get information on market trends, medical and health facilities, weather forecasts and modern agricultural practices. Video-conferencing facilities will also be arranged in select village panchayats, a release from the chief minister's secretariat said. ------------------------ Yahoo!
