I am writing to seek your assistance in identifying candidates for the
position of Program Officer for Governance and Civil Society in the Ford
Foundation's Jakarta office. The Program Officer will be responsible for
developing and overseeing the Foundation's work designed to strengthen the
links between governance, civil society and the achievement of social
justice in Indonesia. The position description is attached.
As the description details, the program officer's grantmaking portfolio will
focus on strategies that contribute to increasing citizen participation in
local governance, strengthening civil society organizations, and promoting a
democratic, inclusive, and gender-sensitive public sphere. The new Program
Officer will be expected to evaluate this work against a changing context
and recommend new strategies for the future.
We are seeking someone with expertise in analyzing Indonesian laws and
social, economic and political dilemmas; a strong commitment to promoting
social justice, especially gender equity; a concrete understanding of and
experience working directly upon the most pressing governance and civil
society issues in Indonesia. Candidates should have an advanced degree in
the social sciences, previous field experience in Indonesia, and both oral
and written fluency in Indonesian and English.
