Minister denies delayed execution due to foreign pressure Malang, East Java (ANTARA News) - Foreign Minister Hassan Wirajuda denied that there was any foreign intervention in the execution of Tibo and his two other associates for their involvement in Poso incident several years ago. "We intend to delay the execution of the three convicts on death row, but not revocation, only delay. So many letters calling for the (delay) of such capital punishment including that from Vatican," he told ANTARA approaching a limited dialogue in Al-Hikam Islamic boarding school here on Saturday. He made the remark prior to a limited dialogue on "Resolution of Labanon-Israel conflict and Prospect of the World Peace in Indonesian Foreign Policy Perspective" which was attended by ambassadors of Palestine, Lebanon, Yordan and two observers from Malaysia and Japan. Accompanied by General Chairman of the largest Indonesia`s Islamic organization "Nahdlatul Ulema" (NU), the minister explained that until now there was no intervention with regard to the delayed execution, as the decision was made independently. "The decision was obsolutely independent, as we are a sovereign state. What we have done is only to delay and not revoke the execution," he said in response to an information saying that President Susilo Bambang Yudhoyono had reportedly received a letter from Pope Benedictus in this case.
