*LDP panels OK revised wording in gov't plan to raise consumption tax*
*TOKYO*, Jan. 22 KYODO
The turmoil that has recently intensified within the ruling *Liberal
Democratic Party* over whether to specify a target year for raising the
nation's consumption tax came to a settlement Thursday as Prime Minister
Taro Aso effectively took a step back.
On Thursday morning, LDP panels endorsed the government's revised draft
of a supplementary clause for a tax-related bill, which states that legal
preparations should be made by fiscal 2011 so that the government can
implement a fundamental tax reform, including boosting the consumption tax
from the current 5 percent.
